Youth and Family Mentoring Services (YFMS) was established in the year of 2010 to provide quality entire family engagement that leads to engaged parents and youth more invested in their own academic and life success. YFMS offers a qualified and professional team providing youth and family engagement through a group mentoring process. YFMS has found that engaging with the entire family ensures better results, they are able to support each other on an individual and family level. Through this work we have learned that by allowing people to be part of the process leads to self-actualization, ownership, accountability and growth. YFMS believes in people, that they are powerful and want to be the best that they can be; we help to create a space where they can gain tools and skills to act in their own best interest.
Evidence of effectiveness
Our track record of success in Twin Cities’ communities and with school districts bears witness to the effectiveness of our services. Past clients have included: Fine Arts Interdisciplinary Resource (FAIR) Downtown, Intermediate School District 622, Learning for Leadership Charter School and HOPE Community Inc. in Minneapolis. The Boys and Girls club, YMCA and YWCA and numerous community-based youth serving organizations.
In practice, we use a wide range of tools and resources, many of which have been empirically evaluated for effectiveness. However, our services are distinguished by our reliance on delivering services that are customized and responsive to the needs that organizations or community groups are facing. Oftentimes, we design our engagement efforts in partnership with our organizations and their constituents to remain relevant and effective.
We have a history of successful collaboration with local human service and education organizations including: Goodwill Easter Seals, Minnesota Department of Education, University of Minnesota, Samuel Simmons Consulting Services, and others.
